Porous polymers bearing functional quaternary ammonium salts as efficient solid catalysts for the fixation of CO2 into cyclic carbonates

A series of porous polymers bearing functional quaternary ammonium salts were solvothermally synthesized through the free radical copolymerization of divinylbenzene (DVB) and functionalized quaternary ammonium salts. The obtained polymers feature highly cross-linked matrices, large surface areas, and abundant halogen anions. These polymers were evaluated as heterogeneous catalysts for the synth...

Synthesis of Cyclic Carbonates Catalysed by Aluminium Heteroscorpionate Complexes.

New aluminium scorpionate based complexes have been prepared and used for the synthesis of cyclic carbonates from epoxides and carbon dioxide. Bimetallic aluminium(heteroscorpionate) complexes 9-14 were synthesised in very high yields. The single-crystal X-ray structures of 12 and 13 confirm an asymmetric κ(2)-NO-μ-O arrangement in a dinuclear molecular disposition. These bimetallic aluminium c...

Catalytic Processes for Chemical Conversion of Carbon Dioxide into Cyclic Carbonates and Polycarbonates

Chemical fixation of CO2 has received much attention because CO2 is the most inexpensive and renewable carbon resource from the viewpoint of green chemistry and atom economy. The kinetic and thermodynamic stability of CO2 molecule presents significant challenges in designing efficient chemical transformations based on this potential feedstock. Currently, cyclic carbonates and polycarbonates are...

Amino acid/KI as multi-functional synergistic catalysts for cyclic carbonate synthesis from CO2 under mild reaction conditions: a DFT corroborated study.

Naturally occurring amino acids were identified as efficient co-catalysts for the alkali metal halide-mediated synthesis of cyclic carbonates from carbon dioxide and epoxides under mild, solvent free reaction conditions. The binary system of histidine/potassium iodide gave an appreciable turnover number of 535 for propylene oxide in 3 h. Detailed studies evaluating a variety of amino acids reve...

Highly efficient synthesis of cyclic carbonates from CO2 and epoxides over cellulose/KI.

Cellulose/KI is a very active, selective, stable, and recyclable catalyst for the cycloaddition reactions of CO(2) and epoxides due to the excellent synergetic effect of cellulose and KI. It is found that the hydroxyl groups on the vicinal carbons of cellulose play a key role for the very high efficiency of the catalyst.
